Narwal Freo X Ultra
A top-rated high-quality, highly-functional Gen 4 robot vacuum and mop that has a new approach to design, the Freo X Ultra is a very well-built machine. The price of $1400 could be a bit steep, but it's often on sale to make it more affordable. The unit is stunning and the base occupies very small space in the corner of your home.
The design of this robot is able to address some of the issues we have encountered with other robotic vacuum and mop units, like the brushes getting tangled in hair, and the brush not being able to reach floors with no furniture. The ability to sweep carpets and bare floors is also impressive. The vacuum/mop has an excellent level of debris collection and the mop is able to quickly soak up bare floors.
The mops have a sophisticated system that cleans along the edges of walls and around furniture. The robot is able to easily get around obstacles such as food bowls, toys, and backpacks. But it can become stuck or entangled with smaller and less hefty objects like shoelaces, USB cables and pens.
We used this robot to vacuum and mop a mix of pile rugs, FLOR carpet tiles and hardwood floors within an open, large floor plan. It vacuumed and mops the 90 square meters in 170 minutes with FREO Mind enabled. This is a bit more than average for Gen 4 robots.
Certain features differentiate this robot from others in its class. Freo X Ultra is equipped with numerous enhancements in sensors, software and hardware that keep it on top of its class. It claims 3.5 hours of autonomy for environments of up to 260 square meters.
You can modify a variety of functions with the Freo app, including how frequently the robot is back to the base station the frequency of mopping, as well as power (silent or smart) and mopping humidity. The app is able to detect heavily soiled areas and devise a streamlined cleaning route, and dispensing detergent or raising the carpet's pads.
Other noteworthy features include a quick charging battery, a clear display on the robot's underside and a handy dock door that is easy to open. The Freo X Ultra vacuum and mop is perfect for apartment and home owners who want to simplify their chores and keep their homes tidy.
Miele Scout RX3
Miele has a track record of quality and innovation in the world of robotic vacuuming. This new robot is designed to take cleaning capabilities to a new level, with its advanced features.
The RX3 has dual suction smart navigation system that incorporates 3D mapping and a camera that transmits live images to your smartphone for effortless control. The RX3's powerful four-stage system provides excellent dust collection on carpets and hard floors. Swing-out side brushes with dual suction channels, and intuitive controls clean corners. Its 8.5 cm height allows it to reach under furniture with low levels. Front cameras and an infrared sensor help it navigate barriers, thresholds and obstacles with ease.

In our test of how well it cleaned baking soda close to corners and baseboards, the Scout RX3 was impressive. Its suction power of 2,500Pa was less powerful than other robots but it moved quickly and was very quiet. It didn't mop, however and its cleaning pads were fiddly to attach and couldn't cope with dirt that had dried on.
Its app is a little on the basic side, lacking advanced features like multiple cleaning modes and automated scheduling. It does support Alexa however, its voice controls aren't precise or responsive. It's also a bit sporadic when it returns to the charging station after the course. robotic hoovers can follow a wall or trace a previous route however, the RX3 stumbles around until it quits.
We also encountered issues with the smart features of the device, including its mapping feature as well as digital stay-out zones. It was great at keeping our furniture legs and shoes away but it was easily hanging up on cables, socks, and carpets. That's the reason we didn't choose to include it in our Best Buy list. The Scout RX3 offers a good price and impressive performance. It's worth considering as an alternative to traditional uprights.
